Critical Computing Updates

Follow the instructions below to download the Microsoft Security Update.

If you are using Firefox browser

1.

Click here

2.

Select Save it to disk, and click OK

3.

Close the downloads window and all other programs

4.

Go to your desktop and double-click the "WindowsXP-KB912919-x86-ENU.exe" file icon

5.

In the "Software Update Installation Wizard" window, select Next

6.

To continue with setup, you must accept the terms of the license agreement by selecting "I agree," then Next

7.

Wait approximately 30 seconds while the update installs

8.

Allow your ThinkPad to restart and complete the security update by selecting Finish (Note: if you are not prompted to restart, your ThinkPad has already received the update through an automatic update process.)

9.

After restarting, you can delete the file icon from your desktop

If you are using Mozilla browser

1.

Click here

2.

Select Desktop, and click on Save

3.

Close all programs

4.

Go to your desktop and double-click the "WindowsXP-KB912919-x86-ENU.exe" file icon

5.

In the "Software Update Installation Wizard" window, select Next

6.

To continue with setup, you must accept the terms of the license agreement by selecting "I agree," then Next

7.

Wait approximately 30 seconds while the update installs

8.

Allow your ThinkPad to restart and complete the security update by selecting Finish (Note: if you are not prompted to restart, your ThinkPad has already received the update through an automatic update process.)

9.

After restarting, you can delete the file icon from your desktop

If you are using Internet Explorer browser

1.

Click here

2.

Select Save

3.

Select Desktop, and click on Save

4.

Select Close

5.

Close all programs

6.

Go to your desktop and double-click the "WindowsXP-KB912919-x86-ENU.exe" file icon

7.

In the "Software Update Installation Wizard" window, select Next

8.

To continue with setup, you must accept the terms of the license agreement by selecting "I agree," then Next

9.

Wait approximately 30 seconds while the update installs

10.

Allow your ThinkPad to restart and complete the security update by selecting Finish (Note: if you are not prompted to restart, your ThinkPad has already received the update through an automatic update process.)

11.

After restarting, you can delete the file icon from your desktop

The above security update from Microsoft will protect your data and your computer from a new Microsoft Windows exploit that may make your ThinkPad susceptible to a variety of computing threats including hackers, viruses, and spyware. Read the official IS-Communications response to the threat.
