Frequently Asked Questions

  • What do I do if want to see all my messages that are quarantined?

You can request to receive a daily digest of all messages that have been quarantined. Learn how to set it up in the user's guide, or download the quick reference card.

  • My Mozilla mail marked the PureMessage daily digest as "junk." What should I do?

Do not mark the PureMessage digest as "not junk." That would mean that all those words in subject lines contained in the digests would now, when found in future spam, be considered evidence of legitimate messages, rather than spam. Instead, modify your junk mail controls and add the PureMessage sender (pm-admin@wfu.edu) to your address book. Here's how:

1. Configure your junk mail filter to ignore messages from addresses in your address book. Do so by selecting the Tools folder, then Junk Mail Controls. Check the box next to "Do not mark messages as junk mail if the sender is in my address book:" Select Personal Address Book from the drop down menu.

2. Add the PureMessage sender to your address book. This can be done easily by right-clicking on the address in the daily digest e-mail message and selecting "Add to Address Book..."

  • But what if a legitimate message is sent to quarantine?

You can retrieve it and make sure messages are always accepted from that sender. Find out how in the user's guide, or download the quick reference card.

  • But how do you know it’s spam if it’s over 95?

An e-mail marked as 96 and above includes the most common spam messages that you’ve seen before like mortgage offers, prescription drug offers, and offers from bogus credit card companies. Our system is set up to delete only those messages that are widely known as spam.

  • Can I retrieve a message that was deleted from my quarantine by the system?

No. After the 14-day quarantine period, the message is automatically deleted and cannot be retrieved.

  • Does this mean that you are reading my e-mail?

Absolutely not. The PureMessage filtering system looks for specific features in messages to identify it as spam then places the message in your quarantine. Your quarantine box belongs to you.
