Warning!
Wake Forest University Information Systems
has temporarily blocked access to the Web site
you are requesting due to a phishing scam.
You have been redirected to this TechTalk page.
Several phishing scams like this one are being sent to Wake Forest students, faculty and staff. The messages appear to come from Wachovia Bank and direct users to a bogus URL to submit their personal banking information. To protect our campus users, we have intercepted your attempt to access to this site and directed you to this page.
Follow these guidelines to keep your personal information
and your campus computing safe: |
Never respond to e-mails from unrecognized or unsolicited senders. |
Never open unsolicited attachments. |
Use a personal e-mail account (such as Hotmail or Yahoo! mail) when a Web site requires it for registration. |
Never provide personal or financial information on an Internet site unless you are confident that the site is secure and legitimate. |
Never provide credit card or bank account information in response to unsolicited e-mail messages, regardless of how enticing or plausible the prospects. |
Remember, all official Wake Forest computing communications are sent to you from IS-Communications. No University office or reputable bank will ask you to confirm account information via e-mail.
If you have specific concerns about the phishing scam involving Wachovia, visit their E-mail Fraud Alert Web site. If you are unsure if an e-mail is legitimate, Wachovia suggests that you look for the following characteristics:
- Wachovia graphics in phishing e-mails may have broken or uneven appearance
- The e-mail indicates that you must immediately take some action or you will lose your ability to access your account(s). Phishers try to pressure customers into taking action; take the time to consider whether Wachovia would ask that you take this action in response to an e-mail. Wachovia typically communicates sensitive account related information through the Message Center, the secure e-mail system within Online Banking
- Grammatical or typographical errors, or poorly constructed sentences and phrases
- Links in e-mails that go to Web sites that do not begin with http://www.wachovia.com
If you suspect fraudulent activity may have occurred on your Wachovia accounts, or if you entered personal information after clicking on the link, immediately contact Loss Management at (888) 647-3648.
