Important Information About New Internet Browser
This week, Microsoft will release a new version of their browser, Internet Explorer, called IE7. IE7 features significant changes in appearance and functionality. Before releasing this update to campus, Information Systems will work with various campus departments to certify the new browser to ensure that it will work properly with applications critical to campus computing including Banner, RMS, and Datastream. Typically, Microsoft’s software updates are delivered to users automatically over the wired or wireless network via Microsoft’s automatic updates. This occurs with any connection to the Internet, not just campus connections. To ensure completion of the certification process described above, Information Systems is providing a temporary block delivered through the campus network. To receive the block you must log in to the campus network using a WIRED network connection on an active network jack on campus. Active network jack locations can be found online at TechTalk. Once you have successfully logged in with a wired connection, the block will be delivered invisibly to your computer within seconds. To complete the process you simply need to restart your computer to ensure that your ThinkPad will block the update. Once testing is complete and Information Systems is confident that IE7 will not cause conflicts with campus computing, we will notify campus. At that time, the block can be removed by once again logging on with a wired connection.
