Important Computing Updates for Campus ThinkPads

Information Systems released two important updates for campus ThinkPads October 16. The first update ensures campus ThinkPads are protected from computing viruses. The second update enables T60 ThinkPads to receive future computing updates wirelessly. Please find your model ThinkPad below and follow the instructions associated with your model.

If you need assistance, please contact the Information Systems Help Desk (x4357).

T60

To receive the updates, log in to your ThinkPad to the campus wired network.
The steps are simple:

  1. Shut down your ThinkPad (Start menu>Shut Down>Shut Down)
  2. Using an Ethernet cable, plug in the ThinkPad to an active Wake Forest network jack.
  3. Restart your ThinkPad and remain connected on the wired network for at least 15 minutes. You may resume other ThinkPad activities during this time.
  4. After 15 minutes, you may return to wireless; the updates are complete.

Good news! After you successfully complete the steps above, you will receive all future critical computing updates through your “Student,” “Faculty/Staff,” or “Admin” wireless network connection.

Please remember that for the security of your data and to ensure that you receive this and future computing updates, you should always select the wireless connection that corresponds with your affiliation to the University. “Guest” wireless should only be used when computing from an off-campus location; we strongly recommend using VPN in these cases.
