WFU Students Caught for Copyright Violations
September 14, 2006
Dear students,
Since the beginning of the semester, the Information Systems department has responded to more than twenty claims of copyright infringement on the Wake Forest campus from HBO, the Recording Industry Association of America, and other entertainment industry organizations. During the entire 2005-2006 academic year, we responded to only two violations.
This marked increase in violations has prompted us to communicate directly with you on the seriousness of this matter.
Things you need to know:
- The entertainment industry is watching for illegal copyright activity.
- Once they find you, they report you to Information Systems. We are required to respond to all copyright complaints from entertainment industry organizations.
- If you are found in violation of copyright laws, you will lose all network access, pay a fine to restore your access, be sanctioned by the dean’s office, and face possible legal action from the industry.
Don’t let copyright get you in trouble! Review the rules, the consequences, and your options, online at TechTalk.
