Configuring Outlook for use with Exchange Server
For users with a new ThinkPad using Exchange

This page provides instructions for setting up Microsoft Exchange/Outlook on your computer after you receive a new ThinkPad.Please follow the instructions below. If you have questions during the process, contact the Information Systems Service Desk at xHELP.

First, Copy your data to the R60.

You may want to make a copy of your Outlook folder before starting (optional):
1. Close all programs.
2. Doubleclick on the Userdata folder on the desktop.
3. Locate and right-click on the Outlook Folder.
4. Select Copy.
5. Right-click on a blank spot on the desktop and left click paste.
A copy of your Outlook folder will appear on the desktop. After you verify that you have all your emails you may delete this folder. Now begin the instructions below.

Download the Files

Firefox Mozilla users: Download the registry update, and the Outlook Preference File. Right-click on the files above and save the files to your desktop.

Internet Explorer users: Download the registry update, and the Outlook Preference File. Click on the links above and save them to your desktop.

Install the Registry Update

Always use caution when installing .reg files. These files have the potential to damage or compromise your computer. You should always trust your source before running this type of file.

  1. Double-click the RPC.reg icon on your desktop

  2. You will then see the alert box confirming that you want to add the information. Click Yes.

  3. At the next pop-up box, click OK

Install the Outlook Preference File:

  1. Double-click the Standard_Load.PRF icon on your desktop.

  2. You will then see the alert box confirming that you want to import account settings. Click Yes.

  3. You will then be prompted to log in with your domain credentials, as pictured, below. For your user name, use deacnet\ followed by your username.  For your password, type your network password. You will be prompted three times to log in. Each time, use the same user name and the same password. It can take up to four minutes between prompts. NOTE: During the authentication process, you may be asked to specify who you are.  If so, select your name from the “Change to” box and click OK.

  4. After the third log in, wait a few minutes for the installation to complete. Once completed, your Outlook mailbox will open automatically.NOTE: When you open Outlook for the first time, you may be asked to set Outlook as your default e-mail and calendar client.  Click Yes.

Configuring AutoArchive

  1. Open Outlook (may already be open)

  2. Select Tools>Options

  3. Select Other tab

  4. Select AutoArchive... button

  5. In the AutoArchive menu, make sure Archive or delete old items and Move old items to: are selected

  6. In the text box under Move old items to:, type C:\userdata\Outlook\ArchiveWFU.pst

  7. Select Apply these settings to all folders now

  8. Click OK to close the AutoArchive menu

  9. Click OK to close the Options menu

If you are MobileU member, you are now ready to install ActiveSync to set up the partnership between your Mobi and the ThinkPad.

Please DO NOT connect the Mobi to the ThinkPad until prompted.
