DeaconAlert!
Know immediately when you have a package waiting.

Information Systems and the Campus Post Office have developed a new way to notify students when they have a package waiting. Using DeaconAlert! software, the Campus Post office is able to automatically inform you when a package arrives by sending you an e-mail message, a text message to your mobile phone, or an instant pop-up message on your ThinkPad or wireless Pocket PC. You control how you want to be notified.

How do I set up delivery to my cell phone, ThinkPad or wireless Pocket PC?

  • To receive notification on your cell phone, simply modify your delivery preferences under the Personal tab in WIN. Detailed instructions can be found here (pdf).
  • To receive notifications on your laptop, desktop, or PocketPC you will need to install special software. Detailed instructions can be found here (pdf).

After you install the software, you will notice a Deacon at the bottom of your ThinkPad screen, like the one pictured here next to the clock. As soon as you see him, you know that you are ready to receive your first DeaconAlert!.

What will it look like? The DeaconAlert! on your cell phone will simply be a text message. When you receive your first DeaconAlert! on the ThinkPad, you will notice a pop-up box on the bottom right of the desktop screen that looks like this:

Have an idea for other ways we can use DeaconAlert? Let us know.
