Configuring Outlook for use with the Exchange Server
For Exchange Pilot Program and MobileU Members Only
This page provides instructions for setting up Microsoft Exchange/Outlook
on your ThinkPad after you complete the instructions provided to you when you received the Mobi.
Please follow the instructions in the order below. If you have questions during the process, contact the Information Systems Help Desk at xHELP.
Make sure Service Pack 2 is installed:

Right-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop

Choose Properties

Look under Systems on the General tab
If you do not see Service Pack 2, contact the Help Desk at xHELP.
Download the Files:
Firefox Mozilla users: Download the registry update, and the Outlook Preference File. Right-click on the files above and save the files to your desktop.
Internet Explorer users: Download the registry update, and the Outlook Preference File. Click on the links above and save them to your desktop.
Install the Registry Update:
Always use caution when installing .reg files. These files have the potential to damage or compromise your computer. You should always trust your source before running this type of file.

Double-click the RPC.reg icon on your desktop

You will then see the alert box confirming that you want to add the information. Click Yes.

At the next pop-up box, click OK
Install the Outlook Preference File:

Double-click the Standard_Load.PRF icon on your desktop.

You will then see the alert box confirming that you want to import account settings. Click Yes.

You will then be prompted to log in with your domain credentials, as pictured, below. For your user name, use deacnet\ followed by your username. For your password, type your network password. You will be prompted three times to log in. Each time, use the same user name and the same password.It can take up to four minutes between prompts. NOTE: During the authentication process, you may be asked to specify who you are. If so, select your name from the “Change to” box and click OK.

After the third log in, wait a few minutes for the installation to complete. Once completed, your Outlook mailbox will open automatically.NOTE: When you open Outlook for the first time, you may be asked to set Outlook as your default e-mail and calendar client. Click Yes.
Set Up E-mail Forwarding
- Go to http://users.wfu.edu/update.html
- Log in
- Click Start/View E-mail Forwarding
- Click Continue
- Type yourusername@mobileumail.wfu.edu
(for example: smithjr8@mobileumail.wfu.edu)
- Click Submit
- Close Browser
Configuring Auto Archive

Open Outlook (may already be open)

Select Tools>Options

Select Other tab

Select AutoArchive... button

In the AutoArchive menu, make sure Archive or delete old items and Move old items to: are selected

In the text box under Move old items to:, type C:\userdata\Outlook\ArchiveWFU.pst

Select Apply these settings to all folders now

Click OK to close the AutoArchive menu

Click OK to close the Options menu
Note: All incoming messages to your Wake Forest e-mail address will now be received in Outlook. Old messages can be viewed in Mozilla Thuderbird, or imported by following the steps below.
Importing Your Old E-mail into Outlook

Open Outlook (may already be open)

Select File>Open>Outlook Data File

An Open Outlook Data File window will appear

Click in the Look in: box, and browse to: C:\userdata\Outlook

Select the file personal folders.pst and click OK
If you are MobileU member, you are now ready to install ActiveSync to set up the partnership between your Mobi and the ThinkPad.
Please DO NOT connect the Mobi to the ThinkPad until prompted. |
