Instant Message ... or Instant Virus?

Another virus is circulating through AOL Instant Messenger. The virus appears in the away message of infected users as a hyperlink to a Web site. One example directs users to various links from www.narprail.org. Remember - these hyperlinks are false and will infect your computer immediately if you click on them.

Even if you know who is sending you a file or a link through IM, you should always use caution in opening it. Do not click on any hyperlink or attachment that you do not recognize or do not expect to receive!

To prevent losing important information on your ThinkPad due to a virus, back-up your data regularly. If you suspect that you have been infected by an AIM virus or have further questions, contact the Information Systems Help Desk.
